Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at the Ripley Academy are a hardworking team who want the best for all of our pupils. We encourage our students to achieve the highest grades possible, whilst also conveying our passion and knowledge in the subject.

We expect that our students arrive on time with the correct equipment and are ready to learn and share new experiences.

Open revision/help after school

Monday and Tuesday in D4, Tuesday in D3. If you have any difficulty with maths please pop in to D8 after school.

Key Stage 3 (Year 7 and 8)

Pupils study a course covering the National Curriculum in Mathematics which follows the Secondary Maths Framework. Work is covered in units and a formal assessment is carried out at the end of each unit of work. Each unit will contain work covering each of the four strands – Number, Algebra, Geometry and Measures and Statistics.

A number of opportunities are also provided for pupils to apply their mathematical knowledge in a range of situations and to take part in challenges and rich tasks to engage them in Mathematical reasoning.

Please use the following resources to improve your maths so you can make the best possible progress by the end of the school year.

MyMaths booster packs

MyMaths have booster packs that will help students to make progress to the next level of maths. Every little effort in trying to improve will help.

Targeting a Grade 3
In order that your child has the best possible chance of gaining a grade 3, we are hoping you will encourage them to do some revision at home during the year. This resource asks them to spend 10 minutes a day for 10 days on mathematics revision. Every day there are five mental mathematics questions and two longer questions to complete. In order to help you support them, we have produced an answer booklet.

Below is the same programme of 10 minutes per day for 10 days to target a grade 4.
